Judges with the 30th Circuit Court


  • Set a hearing date and time with any of the 30th Circuit Court Judges.  The Clerk’s Office does not schedule hearings. 
  • File the original letter addressed “TO THE COURTS OF RECORD OF MICHIGAN, GREETINGS” with the 30th Circuit Court Clerk’s Office at least 48 hours in advance of the hearing date.  We will provide you with a copy
    of the letter for your files on the day you are sworn in. 
  • Pay the $25.00 filing fee at the time the letter is filed. 
  • Provide your name, mailing address, contact phone number, name of judge the hearing is scheduled before, name of sponsor (an attorney who is an active member of the Michigan State Bar), date and time of the swearing in by writing this information on the reverse side of the letter,
  • Appear for your hearing with your sponsor.  Questions pertaining to courtroom decorum and guest attendance must be addressed with the judicial office for the judge hearing the motion and should be addressed
    in advance of the hearing.  
  • The signed order admitting you to the State Bar is filed with the Clerk of the Court (the Clerk’s Office will
    provide you with a certified copy of the order and will provide certified copies to the State Bar and to the Michigan Supreme Court).


Judges who are not with the 30th Circuit Court


Follow the same procedure as listed above with these exceptions:

  •  Schedule a hearing date and time with the Judge who is swearing you in.
  •  The 30th Circuit Court Clerk’s Office will prepare the order and packet which you will need to pick up and
     take with you to the court where you are being sworn in.  After you are sworn in, the signed order must be
     returned to and filed with the 30th Circuit Court Clerk’s Office-either you or the Court where you are
     sworn in can return the order to our office.
  •  The Judge swearing you in must seek an assignment in advance of the hearing from the 
     State Court Administrator’s Office allowing him or her to act as a Circuit Court Judge.  

Cooley or MSU Law School Ceremonies

Follow the instructions provided by the Alumni Department for each school.  Filing requirements with the Clerk of the Court remain the same as above .
