Truancy Court

TRUANCY COURT
Truancy Court is a collaborative effort between the 30th Circuit Court Family Division and the local school districts to reduce truancy.  It is targeted at the Middle School age students.

PROGRAM GOALS
  • Remove barriers to attendance
  • Improve the student and family's commitment to education
  • Provide initial outside motivation to begin the change
REFERRAL CRITERIA/SOURCE
  • Referrals made by truancy officer of school district
  • 10 or more unexcused absences in any one class and be capable of attending school on a regular basis

  • Monthly review hearings
  • Summer programming
  • Family Support Services (if needed)

    Substance abuse treatment
    Tutoring
    Individual/family counseling
    Anger management
    After school programming

    RBT (Rational Behavior Treatment)
    ADP (Adolescent Diversion Program)
  • Court provided incentives
    Bus passes
    Movie tickets
    Gift cards
  • Court ordered sanctions
    Writing assignments
    Community service
    Curfew
    In-Home Detention
    Loss of privileges
    others as appropriate

MISSION STATEMENT
The Truancy Court Program seeks to eliminate barriers and provide opportunities for academic and personal growth for adjudicated youth of Ingham County.
